スウィンバーン工科大学
スウィンバーン工科大学（スウィンバーンこうかだいがく、英語: Swinburne University of Technology）は、オーストラリアのビクトリア州メルボルンにある公立大学。メインキャンパスはメルボルン郊外のホーソンにあり、メルボルン中心街から7.5キロメートル離れた場所に位置する[8]。

スウィンバーンは4つのキャンパスを持ち、合計で60,000人の学生が在学している[9]。
ホーソンのメインキャンパスに加え、メルボルン郊外ワンターナとクロイドンにキャンパスがある。また、マレーシアのサラワクにもキャンパスがある[10]。
沿革
スウィンバーン工科大学の前身は東部郊外技術学校（Eastern Suburbs Technical College）で、1908年にメルボルン郊外ホーソンにジョージ・スウィンバーンによって創設された。1913年、スウィンバーン技術学校（Swinburne Technical College）に改名。1992年6月1日に大学として認可されたが、これは「スウィンバーン工科大学法」が制定されたことに基づく[11]。
オーストラリアの高等教育における1990年代のドーキンス改革の結果、1992年にヴィクトリア・カレッジ（旧・職業訓練専門学校プラーラン・インスティテュート）と合併し、プラーラン郊外にも拠点を持つことになった[12]。ヴィクトリア・カレッジは、ビクトリア州最初の専門学校であるプラーラン技術者学校（Prahran Mechanics' Institute）の敷地に校舎を有していた。
1997年、スウィンバーンはビクトリア州リリーデールにキャンパスを設置した。1998年、職業訓練専門学校アウター・イースト・インスティテュート（Outer East Institute）と合併し、クロイドンとワンターナにキャンパスを設置した[13]。
1999年、スウィンバーンは国立曲芸芸術インスティテュート（National Institute of Circus Arts, NICA）を設置した[14]。
2000年、スウィンバーンとマレーシアのサラワク州政府の協定に基づき、サラワク州にキャンパスを設置した[15]。
2011年2月、先端技術センター（Advanced Technologies Centre）を設置した[16]。ホーソンキャンパス内の22,000平方メートルの近代建築デザイン建造物で[17]、「チーズおろし器ビル」と呼ばれている[18]。
ビクトリア州政府から2012年5月に通達された職業教育に対する予算削減に伴い[19]、スウィンバーンはリリーデールとプラーランキャンパスを閉鎖することを発表した[20]。リリーデールキャンパスは2013年1月に正式に閉鎖した[21]。2013年8月、職業訓練専門学校のノーザン・メルボルン・インスティテュート（Northern Melbourne Institute）と覚書を締結し、プラーランキャンパスを2014年に同校に売却すると発表した[22]。

国際的には、スウィンバーンは『世界大学ランキング（Academic Ranking of World Universities）』[24]や『タイムズ・ハイヤー・エデュケーション世界大学ランキング（Times Higher Education World University Rankings）』[25]で301-400位、2013年の『QS世界大学ランキング（QS World University Rankings）』[26]では351-500位の評価を受けている。
スウィンバーンの物理学科は『世界大学ランキング』[27]で76-100位の評価を受けている。
スウィンバーンの計算機科学、情報技術、社会学、心理学、コミュニケーション・メディア学科は2013年の『QS世界大学ランキング』[28]で151-200位の評価を受けている。
スウィンバーン・カレッジ
スウィンバーン工科大学はスウィンバーン・カレッジを運営しており、大学入学を準備している学生のための予備教育を提供している。スウィンバーン・カレッジでは、英語、基礎科目、ディプロマ・専門学年科目が教えられている[29]。
キャンパス
ホーソン
ホーソンキャンパスはスウィンバーンのメインキャンパスである。職業教育課程、学士課程、大学院課程まで幅広く教えられている。
クロイドン
クロイドンキャンパスは職業訓練専門学校に特化したキャンパスである。建設、大工、電気、配管などの訓練を行う[32]。
プラーラン
スウィンバーンはプラーランキャンパスの運営を停止したが、国立曲芸芸術インスティテュートはいまだに同地に拠点を持つ[33]。
サラワク、マレーシア
サラワクキャンパスはマレーシアのサラワク州クチンに位置する[34]。
スウィンバーン・オンライン
SEEK株式会社との共同事業として、2011年にスウィンバーン・オンラインが創始された[35]。

スウィンバーン学生組合
スウィンバーン学生組合（Swinburne Student Union, SSU）はスウィンバーン工科大学の学生を代表する独立組織である。全学生が加入できる[36]。

- マーク・ハートリー：映画監督。代表作『Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation!』（2008年）[37]。
- リチャード・ローウェンスタイン：映画監督。代表作『Autoluminescent』（ローランド・S・ハワードの生涯についてのドキュメンタリー映画、2011年）、『He Died With A Felafel In His Hand』（2001年）、『Dogs In Space』（1986年）、『Strikebound』（1984年）。
