グロムス門
グロムス門 (Glomeromycota) は菌界に属する門の一つ[3]。約230種が記載されている[4]。陸上植物の胞子体の根(シダ植物や種子植物といった維管束植物)や配偶体(コケ植物やシダ植物)の大半と共生してアーバスキュラー菌根を形成し、リン酸の吸収を助けていることで知られる。一般的には陸上植物に栄養を依存する(偏性生体栄養性)と考えられているが、いくつかの種は植物と共生せずに生存できる可能性も指摘されている[5]。

全世界の地中に生息し、陸上植物の8割以上と共生することができる。湿地・塩性湿地などにも生息するほか、着生植物などとも共生する。
生殖
まばらな隔壁で区切られた多核菌糸を持ち、その先端に直径80-500 μmの胞子 (Glomerospore) を形成して無性生殖する[1][7]。
ディバーシスポラ目の種では、小嚢内に胞子が形成される (acaurosporoid spore)、球根状の構造から形成される (gigasporoid spore) などの形態が見られる[1]。
分子生物学
生体栄養性であるために培養が難しく、生化学・遺伝子的な研究はかなり遅れていた。この問題は最終的に、植物の根の細胞と共に培養する(二員培養 Dual culture法)ことによって解決された。こうして胞子からリボソームRNAを分離することができ、16S rRNA系統解析を行うことが可能となった[8][9]。これにより、グロムス門は二核菌と共通祖先を持つことが示されている[1]。
また、この配列を分子時計の手法で解析したところ、他の菌類からの分岐は4億6200万-3億5300万年前の間であることが示された[7]。この結果は、グロムス門が植物の上陸に深く関わっていたという仮説を支持するものである[10]。
分類
初期の分類は、根の近傍で見つかる胞子嚢果の形態に基づいたものだった[11]。大きさ・形状・色・菌糸との接続・染色液との反応などの形質が用いられたが[12]、形態的な類似性から、グロムス属が別の系統であるアツギケカビ科 Endogonaceae に含められるなどの混乱を招く結果となった[13]。
この混乱の後、アカウロスポラ属・ギガスポラ属の2属によりグロムス綱が立てられ[14]、続いてグロムス科・アカウロスポラ科・ギガスポラ科の3科が立てられた[15]。
グロムス属に似た胞子 (glomoid spore) を形成する数種は、グロムス門の中で早くに分岐したことが分かり、パラグロムス目・アーケオスポラ目の2目に含められることとなった[16][1]。アーケオスポラ目には藍藻と共生するゲオシフォンが含まれる[17]。
また、グロムス属はいくつかの科・属に分割される可能性がある[18][7]。
